Field visit by IGCS focus area “WASTE” team

IGCS focus area “WASTE” team Prof. Vinu, Prof. Dirk Weichgrebe and his Leibniz University Hannover research team, and IGCS postdoc Dr. Mozhiarasi made a field visit to OxiLoc project site (Closed Landfill Methane Oxidation) BAWN and MSW Nienburg transfer station in Lower Saxony, Germany on 27.07.2023. In continuation, on 28.07.2023, the team also visited Plastic waste sorting and recycling facility, GAR Gesellschaft für Abfall u. Recycling mbH & Co. KG Recycling park: Kätinger Heide meeting landbell company and Rest waste treatment facility, RABA BASSUM.

The field visits have been supplemented with some fruitful presentations and futuristic discussions. Overall, the field visit gave the team valuable insights on the waste segregation in recycling centers, and possible scope for building research projects and models in India through fruitful collaborations.

IGCS Winter School 2023 enlightening experience through the intercultural activities, Alumni Reetu Kundu

IGCS school participant Reetu Kundu, affiliated with Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India participated in the recent IGCS Winter School 2023 at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Chennai, India, between 20. February to 3. March 2023 on the theme “Microgrid – A Key Contribution Towards Carbon Neutral Society” under the IGCS focus area of Sustainable Energy Use. Special thanks to IGCS Area Coordinators, Prof. Dr. Frank Behrendt at Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, and Prof. Dr. Krishna Vasudevan at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India, and IGCS Postdoc, Dr. Khulud Alsouleman, also from Technical University Berlin, Germany for organizing the event.

Reetu, had an enlightening experience through the intercultural activities, lab visits, and panel discussions provided valuable insights and connections with fellow participants. They highly recommends the school for its educational value, participant engagement, and cultural exchange.

Collaborative experiences and practical excursions enriches learning journey, Alumni Akash Saha

IGCS school participant Akash Saha, affiliated with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, participated in the last IGCS Summer School 2022 at the RWTH Aachen University, Germany, between 18. July to 29. July 2023 on the theme “Sustainable Waste Management in The Nexus of Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy” under the IGCS focus area of Waste Management. Special thanks to former IGCS Area Coordinators, Prof. Dr. Martin Kranert at University of Stuttgart , Germany, and Prof. Dr. Vinu Ravikrishnan at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras Institute of Technology Madras, India for organizing the event.

During the Summer School Akash gained interdisciplinary knowledge in Sustainable Waste Management and its relation to Climate Change and a Low Carbon Economy. Collaborative experiences and practical excursions enriched their learning journey providing a platform for personal and academic growth, fostering a desire for future collaborations and opportunities within the IGCS community.
