Teaching on sustainability challenges and solutions

IGCS is committed to equip young talents and bright minds with knowledge on sustainability challenges and approaches to its solutions.

IGCS’ flagship teaching project are the annual interdisciplinary Summer and Winter schools. The annual schools are held under the motto of one of our IGCS focus areas and are organized by the respective area coordinators and their partners. The itinerary is about two weeks long and consists of lectures, discussions, group work and field trips.

The Winter Schools take place at IIT Madras in Chennai in February / March while the Summer School takes place at one German partner university in June / July.

Up to 30 selected candidates will be supported with a scholarship that covers travel expenses and a lump sum. Application periods and procedures will be announced on this website and on our Facebook page.

Beyond the schools, IGCS staff has introduced Ecology and Environment as a basic course in all IIT Madras students’ curricula in 2013. The course has been digitalized and made available as a Massive Open Online Course. German teachers at IGCS have been offering sustainability-related courses in selected semesters, too.

Moreover, IGCS invests in young scholars by supervising many IGCS-funded exchange stays within individually developed research projects.
