IGCS Workshop “Promise and Challenges of Biodiesel as Sustainable fuel for the future”, Feb. 19-21, 2015 | IIT Madras

In the area of biodiesel IIT Madras (India) and OWI Oel-Waerme-Institute (Germany) affiliated institute of RWTH Aachen University have a joined IGCS/DST project under which both partners initiated this workshop where there will be invited talks from specialists from India and Germany.

 

 

 

 

 

About the Workshop
Sustainability is fast becoming the keyword in all development domains, especially in the area of energy. The Workshop will focus on Technologies in the energy domain with emphasis on biodiesel as sustainable fuel for future use. The topics that will be touched will range from policy issues related to biodiesel to fundamental processes. There will be invited talks from specialists from India and Germany.
The workshop will consider many facets of biofuels:
• Policy issues from
o an Indian perspective
o a German perspective
o an International perspective
• Biodiesel as fuel
o Challenges (Market / Scientific)
o Related challenges such as production (esterification process) and material compatibility and sustainability
• Fundamental processes
o Evaporation and Burning
o Autoxidation
• Biodiesel Modification for Applicability
o Hydrogenated (HVO) / Waste cooking oil
o Emulsion and additives
o Bio-Mix
• Composition property relationships
o Experimental approach
o Numerical Approach

The workshop is closed by discussion and brainstorming session.

The Workshop will provide an opportunity for students, researchers industry and policy makers to interact with each other and evolve strategies to assess the impact of emerging biodiesel technologies as sustainable fuel for future use.

Registration

The participation in the workshop is by invitation. There is no registration fee for the workshop. Those involved in biodiesel related research and interested in attending the workshop should contact the organizers. However, the outstation participants interested in attending the workshop are required to take care of their travel and stay arrangements.
